Attracted by both the language of modern jazz and contemporary music, saxophonist composer Tom Bourgeois offers an original work at the crossroads of genres. We go from renaissance and baroque to jazz, from improvisation to chamber music, from hints of blues (or almost) to dislocated swing. Initially in quartet, ‘Murmures’ becomes ‘Rumeurs’ in a formula extended to 11 musicians, all versatile and unique. Mystical, introspective, spiritual and then suddenly, angry and exalted, the music of Tom Bourgeois explores unexpected terrains.
