The Nathan Surquin 4tet is a contemporary jazz project born from a simple desire: to create a space of connection through music. The quartet’s music is both sensitive and dynamic, leaving room for space, improvisation, and interaction. Each piece is conceived as a conversation: sometimes gentle, sometimes more intense, always grounded in collective listening.
The quartet’s first album, Ambre, was born from this reflection on encounters. The ones that happen during a journey, over a coffee, between people from different cultures. But also more intimate encounters: two souls recognizing each other, or the bond between a father and his daughter. These moments, often simple yet essential, became the starting point for the compositions. The album does not tell stories in a narrative sense; it captures their essence — fragments of life translated into sound.
