Basile Rahola, Pierre Hurty, and Wajdi Riahi found each other. They played together often and recorded a fiery debut album in 2021 (“Moments”) with Julien Cuvelier on saxophone. The lead double bassist also invited Claudio De Rosa and Octavio Hernández to play on a few tracks. This time, for this new album, Basile has brought in tenor saxophonist Matthias Van den Brande to form a quartet with a very strong identity. From One Path to Another reflects both maturity and serenity. These qualities are undoubtedly due to the French double bassist’s recent emotional upheavals. The pretext was then all there for “making an album.”
