Boris Schmidt has been composing all his life and wrote some of the pieces featured on this sextet’s album whilst playing as a sideman in various bands. In 2016, he formed his own quartet to perform them. Here, he brings together musicians with whom he has developed a strong rapport. Their understanding and interpretation of ‘time’ – the pulse that binds them together – is the key to allowing the music to flow freely and groove. In 2023, he decided to expand the line-up to create richer arrangements. His second album, ‘Here’, follows on from his work with the quartet (‘Now’, released in 2018). We are guided by the melody, the laid-back energy and the skilful balance between the unexpected and the familiar.
