The Jazz Tour

Tours of 9 different groups each year in many jazz clubs and venues in Brussels and Wallonia

The cream of the blue note in Belgium

The Jazz Tour 22-23 will present 9 bands across Brussels and Wallonia. Always eclectic, handpicked according to the principle of blindfold listening by 18 administrators, you will travel from the most classic piano-trios to cutting edge quartets and quintets, including chamber music and almost already legendary musicians from the Belgian scene. Throughout francophone Belgium, you’ll be able to enjoy an intergenerational line-up, original compositions written just for you, eternal standards, bands with or without drums and a good beer to top everything off ! In these troubled and uncertain times, it is important more than ever to enjoy the poetry of a concert, to support the artists who were muzzled for too long and to appreciate the joy of a made in Belgium jazz !

International Jazz Day

A day to celebrate jazz, its roots and influence

On 30 April, the whole world celebrates jazz

In November 2011, legendary pianist Herbie Hancock and Unesco launched the International Jazz Day. This day aims to bring together communities, schools, musicians of all styles and ages from around the world to celebrate jazz, its roots and influence. Recognized as one of the key aspects of humankind’s cultural heritage, this music promotes peace, respect for human rights and human dignity. In its various forms, jazz embodies cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue between artists and communities.

Our programme

April 30 is a great opportunity for us to promote Belgian jazz and defend music synonymous with freedom, sharing and adventure. From the start, we have been celebrating International Jazz Day by organizing different original activities in Brussels every year.

Jazz au Vert

A week-long camp in a green setting to introduce you to jazz or to perfect your skills.

A unique spirit, a camp open to all instruments!

For more than 30 years, curious musicians, future stars and everything in-between have been meeting for the summer Jazz au Vert camp. Thanks to a team of eclectic teachers sharing their knowledge and conducting ensembles in preparation of a marathon concert at the end of the workshop, this week sums up what this music represents: conviviality, rigour, excitement, short nights as well as human and musical encounters … In addition to the main classes, various workshops and activities are proposed as well as the creation of an ephemeral Big Band that swings like no other! All this in a unique atmosphere that is both studious and festive!

Propose your project

Are you a musician and would you like to submit your project for one of our activities?

Les Lundis d’Hortense organizes a whole range of activities, including more than 100 concerts per season. Almost the entire programme – with the exception of certain special events – is based on calls for applications, which are listened to blindly by the members of the Board of Directors of the non-profit association. The vast majority of the members are professional musicians, the others are aficionados who are familiar with the genre. Each group has an equal chance of being selected for the activity for which they are applying. The musicians of the Board of Directors do not have the right to vote for the projects in which they are taking part.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to programme everyone. Out of the 159 Jazz Tour 2020–2021 applications, only nine groups will be selected, so please be patient and put things into perspective: a rejection is not a judgement on the  artistic quality of the project. It is the sum of 18 subjective opinions that enables the most objective selection possible. Please ensure the sound quality of your clips, their effectiveness (no long introductions or 25-minute standards without arrangements) and correct editing (discussions between group members before or after the shot, false starts, long counts, etc.).

Best of luck!
