This quintet grew out of a long-standing musical partnership between pianist Pascal Mohy and saxophonist Ben Sluijs. Their improvised dialogue, shaped by years of working together as a duo and a shared artistic sensibility, naturally led them to expand the project. They are now joined by some of the leading figures in Belgian jazz: Jean-Paul Estiévenart on trumpet, Antoine Pierre on drums and Lennart Heyndels on double bass.
The uniqueness of the project lies in the balance between composition and freedom. Their music is modern, lyrical and organic jazz, deeply rooted in tradition whilst leaving ample room for spontaneity and collective improvisation.
Ben Sluijs’s ethereal melodic lines and Pascal Mohy’s delicate touch, combined with Jean-Paul Estiévenart’s incandescent playing, Antoine Pierre’s inventive and exuberant drumming, and Lennart Heyndels’s deeply organic double bass, create music that is at once intense, fluid and meditative. Each member of the quintet plays a full part in the musical narrative, through constant listening and a particularly lively collective performance.
The audience will discover sincere and generous music, alternating between moments of bubbling energy and more suspended, introspective passages. The quintet favours a sensitive approach to sound and space, where emotion, spontaneity and the depth of musical dialogue take centre stage.
